A Desk's Love

A Desk's Love

I have seen many chairs during my life,
none as elegant as you.
Your soft leather cushions.
are the most stylish I have seen.
I begrudgingly carry a keyboard,
mouse and monitor,
but the only thing I want to have in my hands is you.

I wish we could be together,
because no matter how close we get,
we are separated and blocked,
by that big fat oaf.
He sits on you day after day,
putting strain on your delicate build.
I fear he will crush you and kill you,
throwing you out like all the others.
I wish I could tear him out of your arms,
but you seem content, spinning
around and around constantly.

And each day we sit apart,
my longing grows.
Each day you end up bumping into me,
with those soft arms of yours,
I realize more and more how much of a match we are.
We are destined for each other,
perfect together,
but I fear we will forever be separated.

  1. This poem was a really fun read, I love the humor in it and how the desk was complaining about the person in the seat with such realistic dialogue. I guess this is why we should I always push in our chairs, it sounds like the poor desk needs all the help he can get.

  2. The fat oaf part was funny and I liked how the two connected with human problems. The references are good and overall a great poem.

  3. I like the items you chose to make the metaphor with. I think it is funny that you added the big fat oaf.

  4. Of the many extended metaphor poems I´ve read, (which is like 5) this is probably my favorite. You have humor and imagery, which both make this poem great.

  5. The fact that you managed to describe the desk's love realistically made the entire poem a fun read.

  6. This poem was really unique because I wouldn't image a poem about chairs to be as intimate as this. Mading used excellent vocabulary and added his own style which gave the poem his own twist.
