Future Fear
What exactly is out there?
We don’t know for sure
But I can tell you this,
At 7, I thought it was just rainbows and smiles
and now at 15, it’s all work and lifestyles
They can say, take this, I’ll help you feel good
But based on what I know? I say, no, I don’t need that to be in the mood
The world is cruel out there
Constantly shaming, harassing and insulting
Baby, you must fight hard like a soldier in order to survive this lifelong war
So keep your chin up and keep fighting, sad to say that this is just the beginning
Once you’re out of the booster seat, be careful on who you let to drive the car
You don’t know what is going through the driver's mind
They say, why do you study?
It’s a waste of time.
Okay cool.
Remind me to tell you that as you serve me, and I’m wearing my ivory cashmere coat
You tell me you’re sorry for all the insults you let me know
For doubting me..
But who's laughing now?
When all I want is to be left alone
I’m not sure what you’ll tell your kids, when they're grown and old
But here is something I’ll make sure they’re told
Honey, don’t do what they did, it was a mistake,
All you get in return is that feeling you get when your heart breaks
So start now, and prove them wrong
Because in the end, you were the one played all along
Really good, i love all the metaphors and examples
ReplyDeleteI love this poem and how its about two perspectives, as a young kid transitioning to present,as a teenager facing real life problems. It's something to relate to.
