Scratched Hands and Stardust

Scratched Hands and Stardust
They shouldn’t have told her
That she had a future to worry about
That she had things to do
That she must be prepared
They said that she had to work hard and be smart
They said that she had things to do and places to be
They said that she wasn’t good enough
They said that she must reach for the moon and hang on
But if she didn’t hang on, she would fall to the bottom of the ocean lost and forgotten
Then climb, climb, and keep climbing and don’t look down
Keep climbing but don’t fall down
Keep climbing and never stop
But sometimes all she wanted to do was to lay down on the grass and look at the stars
And her hands, palms open, wanted to catch all the stardust they could and sprinkle it everywhere
Her hair wanted to dance in the wind from side to side
Fling from left to right
And her feet wanted to feel the grass between her toes
Her eyes wanted to watch the sun rise and set
The rainbow after the rain
Feel the love after the hurt
They wanted to see the beauty in life
But her legs had to keep climbing
And her eyes had to keep looking
And the hands
The hands dropped all of the stardust they could hold and were scratched from climbing instead

  2. This is just amazing! You used so many poetic devices and it just reads so beautifully! The picture you chose also added to the poem.
