Opportunity
opportunities are like lost objects,
It seems like you know where
they are until you need them
but when you need them, you walk back to where they are
and find yourself staring into a blank space.
People say, don’t let opportunity pass you by
when it comes knocking on your door,
but maybe they are wrong.
Opportunity is the door that you have to go knock on,
you have to find it yourself, and come up to it,
awkwardly say, hello, "I'm Kyle Marino and I’m looking for Opportunity."
Or maybe Opportunity does come knocking at your door,
but you shy away from opening the
door to a stranger.
Opportunity rings once, twice, assumes you aren’t home,
and leaves.
When you finally muster up enough courage and
you come to the door, and realize that Opportunity has left.
Recently, I had a once-in-a-lifetime experience,
where I was busy doing nothing.
Opportunity knocked once, twice,
pulled out her axe and took the door down,
ran into my living room, put a bag over my head, and kidnapped me.
Only when I was tied to a chair with my eyes held open
presented with this opportunity,
I realized not to walk by her every day
not noticing her presence on the shelf,
but to take a hold of Opportunity when
I had the chance.
This poem has a clear message and is very well written.
ReplyDeleteI liked how you used a lot of similes, metaphors, and personification throughout the poem to describe opportunity.
ReplyDeleteI like the message of this poem, and I feel like I could apply it in my own life.
