Adam Galles
Here I lay
Here I lay, thrashing
not giving in to the urge to give up like everyone else
Here I lay, fighting
Yet the battle is lost to a choice made by others.
Here I lay, knowing
that every second that passes by
makes me feel a longing to be anyone else
Here I lay wondering
can people change, can I stand up
Here I lay hoping
we will be noticed,
for we are the people that need it most
Here I lay waiting
For a savior
Here I lay forgotten
In the dust like everyone else around me,
cowering, nowhere to go
Here I lay starving
craving and slowly drifting out of existence
as people not so far away have the luxury as a place to call home.
Here I am wishing
That maybe I can get up
that people that could do something would do something
Here I lay, Dying
every morsel of hope gone
every bit of energy seeming disappeared.
Here I lay, now sleeping
hoping, fighting, and knowing,
that maybe one day people like me will be helped up.
I like how there is a pattern with repetition and a lot of description in the poem that lets the audience be able to see the imagery that was created.
ReplyDeleteI liked the constant use of repetition of "Here I lay" throughout the entire poem.
ReplyDeleteGood poem as well as the use of Here I lay
ReplyDeleteThe repetition is a great device to drive home how desperate people may be, and creates an effective sense of empathy that drags you in.
ReplyDeletewhy can i relate to this so much?
