Cancer

Cancer...
It’s not a sickness that passes through the air,
It is an uncertainty
Once you have it,
It begins to spread like a wildfire through your body
It’s like Satan running through your veins robbing you of the light from your soul
You shudder at the thought
When you hear the dreaded “C” word
You think,
Why is this happening to me? Or,
I’m a dead man!
And it’s true,
Soon you could be a dead man
You can’t always prevent it, but why aren’t more people trying to find a cure?
You can put the symptoms at ease, for a while
The nausea, bloating stomach, aching body
They cause you mental confusion and delirium
But it’s a disease
It resides in your body
It staggers around in your body trying to hurt you in the worst ways possible
It is rotting you from the inside out
You may try to hide it
But others can see the pain in your eyes
All you can do is fight
All you can do is fight and be ready for what obstacles lie ahead
Fight until the last light of your soul leaves your body.

  3. I really like your powerful word choice and the lack of punctuation, which made it feel like you kept going on about cancer without hesitation and stops. I also liked your rhetorical questions and poetic devices that strengthened your poem. Nice work!
