Montague: Why did you ask Benvolio to talk to Romeo instead of you talking to him?
Montagues and Capulets: What started the whole conflict between the two families?
Benvolio: Do you think Romeo is dumb for loving someone that he doesn't really know?
Romeo: Would you participate in the fight of the families if you were present? Or would you try to stop it?
I think Lord Montague asked Benvolio to talk to Romeo because he is the head of the family, and had other things to attend to. Romeo would try to stop the fight if he was present because in the movie, when another fight breaks out, his initial response is to stop Tybalt and Mercutio from fighting.
