ACT 1, SCENE 1: TAUNTING FATE

Prompt C:

Act 1 Scene 1 - Tybalt says, " What, art thou drawn among these heartless hinds? Turn thee, Benvolio; look upon thy death".(13) This quote really emphasis how deep the hatred is between the houses. Even though it is a simple squabble between a few members of the opposing houses, both cannot stand still while the other jabs at their pride. They threaten to take each other lives over such a small exchange, while later escalates towards a battle in the square between the families. This quote portrays how lowly the houses think of one another and the extent to which their hate runs.

  3. Both the Montagues and the Capulets let their hate blow their squabble out of proportion. Why is it that Benvolio still manages to be relatively aloof from the conflict? He doesn't want to fight, and doesn't want other people to fight.
